Emergency Information at USA

The University of South Alabama is continuing to monitor Tropical Storm Zeta, which is currently located in the Gulf of Mexico, and the USA Coastal Weather Research Center is providing regular updates to University administration.

The storm is expected to impact the Mobile area beginning in the late afternoon on Wednesday, October 28.

Student Information

Due to expected impacts from the storm, all classes scheduled to begin at 12 noon or later on Wednesday, October 28, will be conducted remotely.

All classes scheduled prior to 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, will be conducted remotely. Classes that begin at 6 p.m. or later on Thursday, October 29, will meet in their normally scheduled format, including in-person classes.

All in-person events and activities scheduled after 12 noon on Wednesday, October 28, are cancelled, and all in-person events and activities scheduled for Thursday, October 29, are canceled.

Unless otherwise announced, in-person classes and student activities will resume on a normal schedule on Friday, October 30.

The Marx Library and the Student Center will close at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28, and reopen at 12 noon on Thursday, October 29. The Student Recreation Center will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28, and reopen at 12 noon on Thursday, October 29.

The following Dining Services locations will have modified hours: On Wednesday, October 28, the Fresh Food Company will be open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Chick-fil-A will be open 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Starbucks will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. On Thursday, October 29, the Fresh Food Company will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and the Delta Deli will be open 5 p.m. to midnight.

For resident students, USA Police will respond to emergency situations. Please call (251) 460-6312 in an emergency.

Employee Information

Essential employees, such as facilities, maintenance, custodial and police, should check with their supervisors to receive instructions about schedules and weather preparations.

Non-essential employees should plan to leave campus on Wednesday, October 28, at 3 p.m., and, unless otherwise announced, should plan to return to campus and resume a normal work schedule at 12 noon on Thursday, October 29. All non-essential employees should plan to work remotely while off campus, if they are able to do so.

USA Health is implementing its severe weather plans, and health employees should check with their supervisors for information.
